Last night I attended my first session with Gloucester Future Producers, a program run by Strike a Light. Strike a Light creates events in Gloucester that people never imagined possible. They tell people’s stories through performance and provide brilliant participation opportunities for young people. Gloucester is a diverse city, and Strike a Light ensures that the people they work with, the shows they program, and the companies they support reflect this diversity. They believe the arts can change lives and that everyone, regardless of background, should have opportunities to engage with the arts. I have admired Strike a Light’s work for years, so when I saw a chance to develop my skills with them at no cost, I jumped at it.
I loved last night’s introductory session, which kicked off a 10-week program. At the end, we’ll have the chance to collectively create an event using our new knowledge. Throughout the program, guest speakers with experience producing events in Gloucester will share their insights. I love learning from local professionals. I can’t wait to dive in. We spent time discussing what we want to gain from the program and what we’d like to see happen in Gloucester. I want to create accessible, inclusive events for all.
