In Transit brings together two artists to share their work in progress in the company of peers and members of the public in this artist crit session. There will be a chance to discuss how to make the works more accessible to disabled audiences, whether they will be presented in a physical space or online.
Two artists will share unfinished works as part of the crit. If you are an artist who wants feedback on new work or work in progress and would like to share it with the group, please reserve a place as above and fill in the Google Form here.
We are keen to hear from and present the work of artists who are currently outside of formal education, as they may have less opportunity to have peers critique their work.
Please note that the session will not be recorded. However, we will take notes and the occasional screen cap to be added to our website archive.
How it works
Our crit sessions are ‘silent critiques’. The presenting artist has 15 minutes to share relevant details about their work (title, medium, context, where it may be displayed) before they remain silent, listening to the feedback from the discussion. Artists may end their presentation by posing two questions to the participants (ie. Do you think this intention is achieved?; How can I make this more accessible to visually impaired audiences but still doing xyz?)
Once the artist has finished presenting, the facilitator will set a 5-minute timer for everyone to jump onto a Jam Board to write down their questions or feedback on post it notes. Everyone takes turn going through their notes, explaining their feedback in further detail.
This model allows artists to receive honest responses to the artwork while providing participants time to go over the work, consider what is great or what can be improved, and build a dynamic discussion. Artists also have time to read and reflect on the feedback written on the Jam Board for later conversations.
There will be a 5 minute break in between each artist’s presentation.
Artist Submission
If you are interested in sharing your work, please fill out the form above.
We are only able to present two artists’ works, so we will get back to you with a decision on 30 June 2023. We are keen to hear from artists who are currently outside formal education as they may have less of an opportunity to receive peer feedback.
Access Information
This event takes place online only. There will be live closed captions throughout the Crit session. As the event is scheduled for a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes, we will take a 5 minute break in between. We apologise that we are unable to provide British Sign Language interpretation for this event.
